UK, TRADE AGREEMENTS IN PROGRESS

On January 1st, UK left, even economically, the European Union, reappropriating, from the same date, the competence on its own international commercial policy; one of the issues, since Cameron’s time, of the greatest tension with the Union institutions.

Creating “global Great Britain”, a country strongly committed to trade openness with international leadership: this is the objective of the new and autonomous international trade policy, ensuring continuity for British companies, thanks to the renewal and renegotiation of free trade agreements with EU agreement countries (South Korea, Japan) or the conclusion of a new partnership with Turkey, linked to the EU by a customs union. Not only that: UK has expanded the range of its free trade negotiations in Australia, New Zealand and the US, three of its main trading partners, also identifying the Pacific as a top priority, in order to access the trans-Pacific partnership (CPTPP), recently established, complete and progressive; and aims to leverage its advantage in trade and digital services to become a “powerhouse of global digital trade.” The EU market represents 50% of the UK’s total trade, the EU cannot remain indifferent to the former partner’s international movements.
